Parenting in Islam Today

Parenting in Islam
Life can be difficult and testing at times, but when you become a parent, it is a whole other ball game. With the sleepless nights, the worry when your child is ill, and the constant thoughts of ‘am I doing a good job,’ it is a good idea to stock up on knowledge of what Islam says about parenting, so you can have an idea what to aim for.
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) gave parents the responsibility of raising children and making sure that they understood the importance of doing so.
It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock. The ruler is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. A man is the shepherd of his family and is responsible for his flock. A woman is the shepherd of her husband’s household and is responsible for her flock. Each of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 583; Muslim, 1829.
When your child enters the world, a sudden rush of protectiveness comes over you and that adrenaline that tells you, ‘do what is best for your child.’ It is this urge that continues everyday for the rest of your life, because we know, as parents, we are responsible for ensuring that we help shape our children into the best Muslims that they can be. Our goal is simple – How can I help them achieve the best in deen and dunyah? And in order to do this, we must simply, look at the Qur’an and Sunnah and understand the beautiful messages that Allah SWT teaches us through the creation growing inside us, the process of birth and our children developing as they grow older.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Upon death, man’s deeds will (definitely) stop except for three deeds, namely: a continuous charitable fund, endowment or goodwill; knowledge left for people to benefit from; and pious righteous and God-fearing child who continuously pray Allah, the Almighty, for the soul of his parents.“ (Muslim)
If we take the time to educate and raise our children Islamically, inshaAllah they will take the time to make dua for us when our presence is no longer on this Earth.
We hope that Muslim Parenting Pages offers you some advice and guidance on how to raise your children into the best they can be.
